Gonobidyalaya
is a non-residential school with aiming to impart skill
development training and basic needs oriented non-formal
education, paying special attention to the disadvantaged
youths like school drop outs, unemployed youth, young women
in difficult situation, landless farmers, artisans and
craftsmen.
Education in Bangladesh is certificate-oriented, exam-centred and
exhibits an example of learning by rote. After leaving the formal educational institutes, young men or
women in Bangladesh hardly obtain any specialized skill;
neither do they possess awareness of the realities of the
world, which they will soon face in their actual lives.
Besides, due to acute poverty, parents even with their best
intentions, cannot afford to continue the education of their
children.
That is why the need is felt to have special schools
targeting the resource-constrained segment of the people, a
kind of a school, which will be 'School for Life'
rather than just an institute to pass examination or to
receive a certificate. Hence the idea of
the ‘Gonobidyalaya’
(People’s School) emerged.
